Government exams after 10th, sorted by your marksheet

“What government exams can I apply for after 10th” gets asked by a specific kind of candidate: someone who is not waiting two more years for a 12th mark sheet or four more for a degree, and wants to know what is actually open right now. The honest answer is a short list, because most government recruitment sits above the Class 10 level. What makes it shorter still is that a few exams recruit for several posts under one name, and only some of those posts accept a 10th pass. Applying to the wrong post inside the right exam wastes the fee and the wait for a result you were never eligible for.

The qualification on your marksheet decides the list

A Class 10 pass opens one specific band of government recruitment, not every government exam. It does not open the 12th-pass band or the graduate band, and inside a single exam name, one post can sit at the 10th-pass level while another post in the same notification asks for a diploma or a degree. The list below is built from what each exam’s own notification states as its qualification, not from a general “10th pass or above” assumption that most roundup lists rely on.

Exams open with a Class 10 pass

• SSC MTS. States its qualification as Class 10 pass from a recognised board, with no ITI or diploma alternative. It recruits Multi Tasking Staff across central government offices for peon, chowkidar, gardener and similar general-duty roles, and also runs Havaldar posts in the CBIC and CBN alongside it in the same cycle.
• SSC GD Constable. States Class 10 pass from a recognised board. It recruits Constable (General Duty) posts across the central armed police forces, the NIA and the SSF, plus Rifleman posts in Assam Rifles under the same notification.
• RRB Group D. States Class 10 pass or an ITI certificate from a recognised institution, whichever a candidate holds. This is the level-1 recruitment run by the Railway Recruitment Boards for track maintainer, helper and similar posts, and it should not be confused with RRB NTPC, a separate exam run by the same boards at the 12th pass and graduate levels.
• India Post GDS. States Class 10 pass from a recognised board, with computer knowledge required and, in most postal circles, knowledge of the local language taught up to at least Class 10. It recruits Gramin Dak Sevak, Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak posts, and unlike most exams on this list, selection runs on the Class 10 marks themselves rather than a separate written test.
• RPF Constable, one post inside a two-tier exam. The Railway Protection Force notification recruits Constable and Sub Inspector posts together. Only Constable accepts a Class 10 pass; Sub Inspector needs a bachelor’s degree. Read the post-wise qualification line before applying, since the two posts are not interchangeable inside one form.
• Indian Coast Guard Navik, Domestic Branch only. The Coast Guard runs three different entries under the Navik and Yantrik notification, each with its own qualification. Navik (Domestic Branch) accepts a Class 10 pass. Navik (General Duty) needs Class 12 pass with Physics and Mathematics, and Yantrik needs a diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering. All three are advertised together, which is exactly where a 10th-pass candidate can end up reading the wrong column.

What looks close but is not open on a 10th pass

Two confusions come up constantly around this band, and neither holds up against the actual notification:

• SSC CHSL is frequently grouped with SSC MTS because both are run by the same commission and both feel like “entry level” postings. CHSL asks for a Class 12 pass, not Class 10. • RPF Sub Inspector and RRB NTPC’s graduate posts get read as part of this band because they share a notification or a recruiting body with a 10th-pass post. A degree requirement attached to one post inside an exam never transfers to another post in the same exam.

“10th pass with ITI” is also not the same statement as “10th pass or ITI.” RRB Group D accepts either qualification on its own. Some other recruitments that mention ITI actually require the certificate in addition to the 10th pass, as a trade qualification rather than an alternative to it, so do not assume the RRB Group D pattern carries over to a different exam.

Age and category relaxation still apply on top of qualification

Clearing the qualification bar only gets you to the next filter, not through it. Every exam above also sets an age window, and category relaxation for OBC, SC, ST, PwD and ex-servicemen candidates can move the upper limit well past the general cutoff, by a different margin on each exam. How to choose, in order

1. Confirm your result is final, not provisional. A 10th pass means a declared result on your marksheet, not a supplementary or compartment status still pending.
2. If you hold an ITI certificate alongside your 10th pass, check whether the exam treats it as an alternative qualification, as RRB Group D does, or as an added trade requirement. The notification, not a summary article, states which applies.
3. Where an exam recruits multiple posts in one notification, such as RPF or Coast Guard Navik/Yantrik, read the post-wise qualification table before choosing which post to apply against.
4. Check the age window and category relaxation for whichever exam and post clear the qualification filter. Passing the qualification bar does not mean you are within the age limit.
5. Read the current notification for the exam you settle on. The qualification lines above reflect the verified pattern for each exam, not a guarantee for the cycle currently open.
