What RPF Constable/SI is

The Railway Protection Force recruits Constables and Sub Inspectors through this exam to secure railway property, passengers, and stations across the Indian Railways network. It is a distinct force from the general railway recruitment exams also covered on this site (RRB NTPC, RRB Group D), which fill operational and technical railway posts: RPF is specifically a security and law enforcement force operating within the railway system, closer in nature to a police force than to a railway operations role.

Constable and Sub Inspector are separate recruitment levels within the same exam cycle, with different qualification, age, and physical standard requirements, so a candidate applies to the specific post they are eligible for.

Who can apply

For Constable posts, a Class 10 pass from a recognised board is required. For Sub Inspector posts, a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university is required, as specified in the notification. The general age band is roughly 18 to 25 years, varying by post, as on the date specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability.

How the exam runs

The Computer Based Test is an objective exam covering General Awareness, Arithmetic, and General Intelligence and Reasoning, with negative marking for wrong answers as specified in the notification. Candidates who clear the written cutoff proceed to the Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Measurement Test, checking running, height, chest measurement (where applicable), and other physical standards RPF sets for security duty.

Document Verification follows, checking educational certificates, identity documents, and category certificates against the application. A Medical Examination is the final stage before appointment. There is no separate interview for these posts.

Preparing the application

RPF specifies exact photograph and signature requirements in each notification rather than a fixed year to year standard, so check the current notification’s dimensions and file size before uploading. The tools on this site can resize your photograph to whatever specific target the notification states.

On exam day

Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed admit card and a government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the exam centre. For the physical stage, follow the specific reporting instructions, clothing, and footwear requirements set out separately.

The official Indian Railways website, linked above, carries the current post-wise vacancies, physical standards, syllabus, and schedule for the cycle you are applying to.
