TWK, TIU and TKP explained: the three parts of SKD

TWK, TIU and TKP are the three sub-tests that together make up SKD (Seleksi Kompetensi Dasar), the computer-based test every CPNS applicant sits regardless of the formation they are targeting. TWK tests national values and civic knowledge, TIU tests general reasoning, and TKP tests personal character through situational judgement. Each has its own separate passing threshold.

TWK: Tes Wawasan Kebangsaan

TWK covers knowledge of national values, the 1945 Constitution, Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika and the concept of nationalism in an Indonesian civic context. It is a knowledge test rather than a reasoning test, meaning preparation is mostly about studying the actual content, not practising a technique. Because it is treated as a foundational values check, it carries its own separate minimum score you must clear independently of your TIU or TKP result.

TIU: Tes Intelegensia Umum

TIU covers general intelligence, split broadly into verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and logical or figural reasoning. This is the sub-test most similar to the general aptitude sections found in other countries’ civil service exams, and it rewards practice with timed reasoning questions more directly than TWK does. According to test takers’ and exam prep sources’ consistent reporting, TIU is often where applicants lose the most marks relative to its threshold, because reasoning speed under time pressure does not improve as quickly as factual recall does.

TKP: Tes Karakteristik Pribadi

TKP is a situational judgement test. Instead of one objectively correct answer, each question presents a work-related scenario with several response options, and each option is scored according to how well it reflects traits the civil service values, such as integrity, service orientation, teamwork, and adaptability to change. TKP typically carries no wrong answer that scores zero, every option scores something, which makes it structurally different from TWK and TIU. Because of that, effective preparation for TKP is about learning the underlying value framework the scoring rewards, not about right-or-wrong drilling.
