What LIC AAO is

LIC AAO recruits graduates into the Assistant Administrative Officer cadre of the Life Insurance Corporation of India, the country’s largest life insurer and a public sector undertaking. It is the entry point into a management track inside LIC, similar in shape to a bank PO role but inside an insurance company rather than a bank: a period of structured training and branch or divisional office work before officer level responsibilities settle in.

LIC recruits AAOs both in a generalist stream and in specialist streams such as IT, Chartered Accountancy, Actuarial and Legal, each with its own specific qualification requirement beyond the general bachelor’s degree, so check which stream a given notification is recruiting for before assuming generalist eligibility applies.

Who can apply

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university is the requirement for the generalist stream; specialist streams carry their own additional qualification, stated in that stream’s notification. The general age band is roughly 21 to 30 years, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability. Confirm the exact cutoff date against the current notification.

How the exam runs

The exam runs in three stages, closely following the pattern common to public sector insurance and banking recruitment. The Preliminary Examination is a one hour test of one hundred questions across Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language, with a quarter mark penalty for each wrong answer.

The Main Examination is a three hour test covering Reasoning Ability, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Insurance and Financial Market Awareness, and a descriptive English section of letter writing and essay. The Insurance and Financial Market Awareness section is specific to this exam and distinguishes it from a pure banking PO paper.

Candidates who clear the Main Examination proceed to an Interview. Final selection combines Main Examination marks and interview marks in a ratio the notification specifies.

Preparing the application

Photograph and signature specifications match the rest of the banking and insurance exam family: a JPEG photograph between 20 and 50 kilobytes and a JPEG signature between 10 and 20 kilobytes. The resizers on this site handle both in your browser without uploading anything.

The application fee is typically 700 rupees for general and OBC candidates and 85 rupees for SC, ST and PwD candidates, confirmed against the current notification since fees are revised periodically.

On exam day

Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed e-admit card, a government photo identification, one recent passport size photograph and a black or blue ballpoint pen. No electronic devices are permitted inside the hall.
