What SBI PO is

SBI PO recruits Probationary Officers specifically into the State Bank of India, the country’s largest public sector bank, run separately from the IBPS PO exam that covers the other public sector banks. State Bank of India conducts its own recruitment because it sits outside the IBPS pool, which is why a candidate aiming broadly at a bank officer role typically prepares for both rather than treating them as interchangeable.

The role itself is the same shape as any bank PO post: a probation period of branch level work before officer level responsibilities begin, with postings anywhere SBI operates.

Who can apply

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university is the only academic requirement. The general age band is 21 to 30 years as on the 1st of April of the examination year, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability. Confirm the exact cutoff date against the current notification.

How the exam runs

The exam runs in three stages. The Preliminary Examination is a one hour test of one hundred questions across English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability, with a quarter mark penalty for each wrong answer and sectional cutoffs that must be cleared alongside the overall cutoff.

The Main Examination is a three hour test covering Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis and Interpretation, General, Economy and Banking Awareness, English Language, and a descriptive section of letter writing and essay. This stage carries most of the weight in the final ranking.

Candidates who clear the Main Examination proceed to a Group Exercise and Interview stage, distinct from the single interview most other bank PO exams use. Final selection combines Main Examination marks with Group Exercise and Interview marks in a ratio set out in the notification.

Preparing the application

The photograph and signature specifications match the rest of the banking exam family: a JPEG photograph between 20 and 50 kilobytes and a JPEG signature between 10 and 20 kilobytes. The resizers on this site handle both in your browser without uploading anything.

The application fee is typically 750 rupees for general and OBC candidates, waived for SC, ST and PwD candidates, confirmed against the current notification since fees are revised periodically.

On exam day

Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed e-admit card, a government photo identification, one recent passport size photograph and a black or blue ballpoint pen. No electronic devices of any kind are permitted inside the hall.

The official SBI careers portal, linked above, carries the current notification, exact dates and any post specific detail this page does not.
