What Valoracion del Merito Actually Scores in Etapa III
Etapa III scores prior work experience and merit factors like courses and distinctions against the criteria the convocatoria fixes, after Etapa II is cleared.
Editorial Desk
Etapa III of the SPC concurso, the evaluacion de la experiencia y valoracion del merito, is a document-based scoring stage. It only applies to candidates who have already cleared Etapa II, the knowledge exam and skills evaluation, and it scores prior work experience alongside merit factors such as additional education, courses, and distinctions.
What counts as a “merit factor” here
Merit factors covered at this stage include things beyond the base academic and experience requirement already checked at the curriculum review: additional courses taken, further education completed, and distinctions or recognitions a candidate holds. The specific criteria and how they are weighted against each other are fixed by the convocatoria for that plaza, which is why the same set of credentials can score differently across two different postings.
How is this different from the revision curricular
The revision curricular, Etapa I, is an automated pass or fail check of whether your profile meets the convocatoria’s baseline requirements at all. Valoracion del merito, Etapa III, comes later, applies only to candidates who already passed the knowledge and skills stage, and scores the depth and quality of experience and merit factors rather than simply confirming a minimum bar was met. What the curriculum review actually checks covers the earlier stage in detail.
What happens after Etapa III
Candidates move into Etapa IV, the panel interview before the Comite Tecnico de Seleccion of the hiring dependencia, covered in what to expect from the interview with the Comite Tecnico de Seleccion. Etapa V is where that committee determines the winning candidate from among everyone who cleared every prior stage.
Does more experience always mean a higher score at this stage
Not automatically. The convocatoria fixes the specific criteria being scored and how they weigh against each other, so how experience and merit factors translate into points depends on what that particular posting values, not on a fixed formula that applies across every plaza. Full background on how all five stages fit together is on the Servicio Profesional de Carrera exam page.
