The Concurso Docente entrevista is a group evaluation applied by a universidad acreditada selected by the CNSC or the ICFES: aspirants are grouped in sets of roughly five, presented with a situational case study drawn from everyday scenarios in schools, and asked to discuss it among themselves until they reach a solution. It runs for about 60 minutes, with the final 10 minutes set aside for the evaluators to record their individual scores. A panel of two evaluators scores the interview for docentes de aula and lideres de apoyo, and a panel of three for directivos docentes.

What is the interview actually measuring?

The comportamental competencies relevant to the specific empleo, not subject-matter knowledge, which the earlier prueba de aptitudes y competencias basicas already covers. Evaluators watch how each aspirant behaves inside the group discussion: whether they listen, contribute constructively, handle disagreement and move the group toward a solution, since those are the behaviors expected of someone managing a classroom or leading a school.

Why is the case study done in a group rather than one on one?

Because the group format lets evaluators observe interpersonal behavior that a one-on-one interview cannot show as naturally: how an aspirant negotiates, defers, or leads when the people around them are peers rather than an evaluator asking direct questions. The case studies themselves are built around situations specific to the role, distinguishing directivos docentes, docentes de aula and lideres de apoyo, since the comportamental demands of each role differ.

How does the interview fit into the overall Concurso Docente score?

It is one of four stages, alongside the prueba de aptitudes y competencias basicas, the prueba psicotecnica and the valoracion de antecedentes, and it contributes its own fixed weight to the final score that produces the lista de elegibles; our post on how the Concurso Docente works covers the full sequence, and our breakdown of every CNSC concurso stage puts the interview in the context of the wider five-stage process. Unlike the written aptitudes test, the interview is not eliminatory in the sense of a hard pass and fail line applied before scoring; it contributes its weighted portion to the overall ranking, per the acuerdo’s rules for the process.

What should an aspirant actually do to prepare?

Show up on time, generally with at least 30 minutes to spare before the citation time, at the specific city and location fixed in the citacion, since punctuality itself is part of showing the professional conduct being evaluated. Beyond that, familiarity with the kind of everyday situations a docente or directivo docente actually handles, conflict between students, a parent complaint, a resource shortage, matters more than rehearsing a fixed script, since the case studies are meant to surface genuine behavior, not a memorized answer.

Does the interview differ for directivos docentes?

Yes, both in panel size, three evaluators instead of two, and in the content of the case studies, which reflect the leadership and administrative situations a rector or coordinador actually faces rather than classroom-specific scenarios.

FAQ

Is the interview applied in person or remotely? CNSC guidance for the Concurso Docente process describes the entrevista as applied in person, in groups, at a specific city and location fixed by the citacion; check the current acuercio for the specific process for any changes to that format.

Can I fail the interview outright? The interview contributes a weighted score rather than a separate hard elimination threshold the way the aptitudes test does, though a very low score can still meaningfully affect your final ranking on the lista de elegibles.

How many aspirants are grouped together for the interview? Groups of roughly five aspirants, based on CNSC’s published orientation guides for past Concurso Docente processes.

Do I need to bring anything to the interview? The same documents required for any CNSC test day: your citacion printed from SIMO and your original cedula de ciudadania matching your SIMO inscription.

Where does the interview rank against the other three stages in weight? The specific weighting is fixed by the acuerdo de convocatoria for the process and can differ between processes; check the current acuerdo rather than assuming a fixed percentage carries over from a previous Concurso Docente.
