What KVS TGT/PGT is
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan recruits Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) through this exam into its network of central government schools serving primarily the children of central government and defence personnel. It is a recruitment exam, distinct from CTET, which is only an eligibility test: a candidate needs a qualifying CTET (or equivalent) score before applying here, but clearing CTET alone does not get them a KVS post.
Because Kendriya Vidyalayas operate nationwide with transfer postings across the country, a KVS teacher’s location is not fixed to one city or state the way a state government teaching post typically is.
Who can apply
KVS TGT eligibility
KVS TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) recruits for classes 6 to 10. A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant teaching subject with a B.Ed, along with a qualifying CTET or equivalent score, is required, as specified in the notification.
KVS PGT eligibility
KVS PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) recruits for classes 11 and 12. A Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a B.Ed, along with a qualifying CTET or equivalent score, is required, as specified in the notification.
Both KVS TGT and KVS PGT follow the same recruitment cycle and application window; only the subject, teaching level and qualification differ. The general age limit for both is up to 40 years as on the date specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability.
How the exam runs
The Written Examination is an objective test covering General Awareness and Reasoning, Perspectives on Education and Leadership Qualities, Proficiency in the Language of Instruction, and subject-specific content and pedagogy relevant to the post applied for, with negative marking as specified in the notification.
Candidates who clear the written cutoff proceed to an Interview, which for some subjects also includes a Skill or Demonstration Test relevant to that subject’s teaching practice. Final selection combines written exam marks and interview marks as KVS specifies each cycle.
