What NVS TGT/PGT is

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti recruits Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) through this exam into its network of residential Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools, which serve talented students from rural areas across the country. It is a recruitment exam, kept separate from CTET, which is only an eligibility test: a candidate needs a qualifying CTET (or equivalent) score before applying here, but CTET alone does not place them in an NVS post.

Because Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential schools spread across rural districts nationwide, an NVS teacher typically also resides at the school campus, which is a structurally different posting arrangement from most day-school teaching posts on this site.

Who can apply

For TGT posts, a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant teaching subject with a B.Ed, along with a qualifying CTET or equivalent score, is required. For PGT posts, a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a B.Ed, along with a qualifying CTET or equivalent score, is required, as specified in the notification. The general age limit is up to 40 years as on the date specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability.

How the exam runs

The Computer Based Test covers General Awareness and Reasoning Ability, General English or General Hindi, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Perspective on Education and Leadership Qualities, and subject-specific content and pedagogy relevant to the post applied for, with negative marking as specified in the notification.

Candidates who clear the written cutoff proceed to an Interview, which for some subjects also includes a Skill or Demonstration Test relevant to that subject’s teaching practice. Final selection combines written exam marks and interview marks as NVS specifies each cycle.

Preparing the application

NVS specifies exact photograph and signature requirements in each notification rather than a fixed year to year standard, so check the current notification’s dimensions and file size before uploading. The tools on this site can resize your photograph to whatever specific target the notification states.

On exam day

Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed admit card and a government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the exam centre.

The official NVS website, linked above, carries the current subject-wise vacancies, syllabus, and schedule for the cycle you are applying to.
