What the Sikkim PSC Combined Competitive Examination is
The Sikkim Public Service Commission conducts a combined civil service exam recruiting into Civil Service, Police Service and Finance and Accounts Service posts, alongside a separate stream of individual, single-post advertisements (Assistant Professor, Junior Engineer, Sub- Jailer and others) that SPSC also runs outside this combined cycle. Who can apply
The qualification requirement is a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. The distinguishing eligibility feature of this exam, and one worth understanding before you assume general Indian citizenship qualifies you to apply, is documentary: candidates must hold a valid Sikkim Subject Certificate (SSC) or a Certificate of Identification (COI), the state’s own residency-linked identity documents rooted in Sikkim’s distinct constitutional status under Article 371F. Reserved-category candidates additionally need a Sikkim Government Category Certificate, a valid Local Employment Card, and demonstrated knowledge of a State language and local customs. None of these are quick to obtain if you do not already hold them, so confirm your documentation well before an application window opens rather than during it.
How the exam runs
The Preliminary Examination has two papers, General Studies and Aptitude and Reasoning, together worth four hundred marks, with a one-third mark penalty for each wrong answer; run your expected attempt pattern through the negative marking calculator before deciding how much to guess. It is a screening stage and does not itself decide final merit. The Main Examination includes a compulsory language paper that is qualifying only, a minimum of forty percent is needed to clear it, alongside General Studies and optional-subject papers whose exact structure is set out in the specific notification.
