What ISRO Scientist/Engineer is
ISRO recruits Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ through its Centralised Recruitment Board, placing successful candidates into India’s space research and satellite launch programme across its various centres (such as VSSC, SDSC SHAR, and URSC). It is a government research and engineering role rather than an administrative one, and unlike most exams on this site, shortlisting for the further stages is based on a combination of academic merit and, at some centres and disciplines, a written test, rather than a single objective exam everyone sits identically.
Recruitment is discipline and centre specific: a notification lists which engineering disciplines and which ISRO centres have vacancies that cycle, and a candidate applies for a specific discipline-centre combination.
Who can apply
A first class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in a discipline relevant to the notified vacancy, such as Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering, is required, as specified in the notification. The general age limit is up to 35 years as on the date specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability.
How the selection process runs
ISRO shortlists candidates initially based on academic performance in their qualifying degree, using a marking scheme it publishes in the notification. Depending on the discipline and centre, shortlisted candidates may then sit a written examination in their engineering subject; some cycles and centres proceed directly from shortlisting to Interview without a separate written stage, so always check what the current notification specifies for your discipline and centre.
Shortlisted candidates then sit a Personal Interview, and final selection is based on the interview along with the earlier shortlisting criteria, followed by a medical examination before appointment.
Preparing the application

On exam day
Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card or interview call letter, with a government photo identification matching the name and photo on the letter, and your original degree certificates and mark sheets, as specified in the notification.
