What SIDBI Grade A is
The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is the apex regulatory body for the licensing and regulation of micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) finance companies in India, and also functions as the apex development finance institution for the MSME sector. Its Grade A recruitment fills Assistant Manager posts in the General stream and in Specialist streams such as Legal, Information Technology and Rajbhasha. SIDBI sits alongside RBI, NABARD, SEBI, IRDAI, PFRDA and IFSCA in the family of regulator and development-bank Grade A exams, which is why this page’s primary category is regulatory-services and it is also cross-listed under banking and finance.
Unlike a public sector commercial bank, SIDBI does not run a retail branch network. Its work is refinancing banks and non-banking finance companies that lend to small industries, direct lending in industrial clusters where the credit ecosystem has a gap, running the Fund of Funds for Startups initiative, and shaping policy for MSME credit. The nature of the job therefore skews toward development finance, credit appraisal for MSMEs, policy, and cluster-level project work rather than day-to-day commercial banking.
Who can apply
For the General stream the notification asks for a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Administration or Engineering with at least 60 percent marks, with 50 percent for SC, ST or PwBD candidates. The notification also lists parallel routes for candidates qualified as Company Secretary (CS), Cost and Management Accountant (CMA or ICWA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Accountant (CA), as well as an MBA or PGDM in any discipline. Specialist streams (Legal, IT, Rajbhasha and others notified in a given cycle) ask for the relevant professional qualification instead.
The age band is 21 to 30 years as on the cut-off date specified in the notification. In the 2025 cycle that cut-off was 14 July 2025. Standard relaxations apply for OBC, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Serviceman candidates as listed in the age relaxation section above.
How the exam runs
Selection is a three-phase process. Phase I is an online preliminary screening examination of 200 marks covering English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, English descriptive writing, and Economic and Social Issues with a focus on the Indian economy. Wrong answers carry negative marking as specified in the notification.
Candidates who clear the Phase I sectional and overall cut-offs advance to Phase II, an online main examination of 200 marks. Phase II combines a General English descriptive paper with an objective and descriptive paper on the MSME sector, banking, finance and management. Phase III is a personal Interview of 100 marks, which can include marks for notable extracurricular or service achievements against documentary evidence. Final selection combines the marks candidates score in Phase II and Phase III as SIDBI specifies each cycle.
Preparing the application
SIDBI specifies the exact photograph and signature dimensions in each notification rather than a fixed year to year standard, so check the current notification before uploading. The photo resizer and signature resizer linked at the bottom of this page can bring a file down to the kilobyte range the notification asks for.
The application fee in the 2025 cycle was INR 1,100 for General, OBC and EWS candidates, comprising an INR 925 application fee and INR 175 intimation charges. SC, ST and PwBD candidates paid only the INR 175 intimation charge, and staff candidates were exempt.
