What SSC CAPF SI is

SSC conducts this exam to recruit Sub Inspectors into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), which includes forces such as CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB, and it also fills Sub Inspector posts in Delhi Police through the same recruitment cycle. It is the standard central government route into a Sub Inspector rank in policing and paramilitary work for a general graduate, distinct from the constable level exams and from state police recruitment, which each state runs separately.

Because this exam feeds multiple forces at once, a candidate’s final posting depends on their rank in the merit list, their preference order among the forces, and the vacancies each force has notified that year.

Who can apply

A Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in any discipline is the only academic requirement. The general age band is roughly 20 to 25 years as on the date specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability. Physical standards (height, chest, and for some categories a running or physical efficiency requirement) are also specified in the notification and vary slightly by category and gender.

How the exam runs

Paper I is an objective, computer based test covering General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Knowledge and General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension, with negative marking for wrong answers as specified in the notification. Candidates who clear Paper I advance to the Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test, which checks height, chest measurement (where applicable), and running or other physical requirements set for the post.

Candidates who clear the physical stage sit Paper II, a descriptive paper testing English Language and Comprehension in more depth than Paper I’s objective format. A Medical Examination follows, checking fitness standards specific to the forces. Final selection includes an Interview/Personality Test, and the overall merit is computed by combining marks across these stages as SSC specifies each cycle.

Preparing the application

SSC specifies exact photograph and signature requirements in each notification rather than a fixed year to year standard, so check the current notification’s dimensions and file size before uploading. The tools on this site can resize your photograph to whatever specific target the notification states.

On exam day

Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed admit card and a government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the exam centre. For the physical stages, follow the specific reporting instructions, clothing, and footwear requirements SSC sets out separately for that stage.

The official SSC website, linked above, carries the current force-wise vacancies, physical standards, syllabus, and schedule for the cycle you are applying to.
