What the Allievi Agenti competition is
The concorso per allievi agenti is the entry route into the Polizia di Stato, Italy’s national civil police force. It is opened by decree of the Capo della Polizia, under the Dipartimento della Pubblica Sicurezza of the Ministero dell’Interno, and successful candidates enter a training course before being appointed agenti.
The 2026 edition, opened by decree of 29 April 2026, offered 4,400 posts. It is not one competition but three parallel procedures running under one notice: 2,398 posts for civilian candidates under code AG20261, 1,962 posts reserved to volunteers in ferma prefissata of the Armed Forces under code VFP2026, and 40 posts under code BIL2026 for candidates holding the Italian-German bilingualism certificate at level B2. Applications closed at 23:59 on 29 May 2026.
Who can apply
The qualification requirement is an upper secondary school diploma valid for enrolment at university. Only Italian citizens in possession of civil and political rights may apply.
Age is the binding constraint. The minimum is 18 completed. The maximum is under 26 for the AG and BIL procedures and under 25 for the VFP procedure, as set out in the notice. These limits are strict and are calculated against the reference date in the bando, which is why candidates should verify their own position against the text rather than a summary.
Candidates apply under one procedure. The choice determines the written test format, the pool of posts and the ranking.
The written test and the banca dati
The written test is the first hurdle and it is a question bank exam, which changes how preparation works. On 11 June 2026 the Ministero dell’Interno published the official banche dati, reported as 6,000 questions for the civilian and bilingual procedures and 6,000 for the Armed Forces volunteers procedure. The examination questions are drawn from those published sets.
The formats differ by procedure. The civilian procedure AG20261 uses 100 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes, options A to E, with a pass mark of 18 out of 30. The VFP2026 procedure uses 80 questions in 60 minutes, options A to D, with a pass mark of 6 out of 10. In both banche dati as published, the correct answer is always option A, which is a publication convention and not a hint about the live paper: in the real test the options are shuffled.
Subjects are general culture, English language and the most common computer applications, logical-mathematical and critical verbal reasoning, and the specialist subjects indicated in the ministerial regulations.
The timing is the real difficulty. One hundred questions in ninety minutes leaves roughly 54 seconds per question including the reading, and 80 in 60 minutes leaves about 45 seconds. Candidates who work through the banca dati without a clock are training for a test that does not exist.
After the written test
The remaining stages are eliminatory in sequence: assessment of physical efficiency, assessment of psycho-physical fitness, and assessment of aptitude. An optional foreign language test and the scoring of qualifications then feed into the final ranking, after which successful candidates are admitted to the training course.
Physical and medical requirements are set by ministerial regulation and are checked against the candidate, not against a declaration. Candidates coming from the written test often treat the physical stage as a formality and start preparing for it too late, which is the most common way a good written score is wasted.
