What NICL AO is
NICL AO recruits graduates and postgraduates into the Administrative Officer, Scale I cadre of National Insurance Co. Ltd., one of India’s oldest public sector general insurers. Like its sibling exams at NIACL, UIIC and OICL, it is the entry point into a management track: a probationary period followed by branch, divisional or regional office responsibility.
NICL recruits a Generalist stream alongside Specialist streams in Legal, Medical, Finance, IT and Automobile Engineering, each carrying its own qualification requirement beyond the general degree, so check which stream a given notification is recruiting for.
Who can apply
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in any discipline, with a minimum 60% aggregate (55% for SC and ST candidates), is the requirement for the Generalist stream. Specialist streams have their own requirements: for example, the Medical stream needs an MBBS, MD or MS with medical council registration. The general age band is roughly 21 to 30 years, with standard relaxations for reserved categories. Confirm the exact cutoff date against the current notification.
How the exam runs
The Preliminary Examination is a one hour, qualifying-only test of one hundred questions across English Language, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude; its marks are not carried forward to the final merit list.
The Main Examination is an objective test worth two hundred and fifty marks across Reasoning Ability, English Language, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge and Quantitative Aptitude, with a quarter mark penalty for each wrong answer, plus a thirty minute Descriptive Test of essay, précis and comprehension writing.
Final selection weighs the Main Examination at 80% and the Interview at 20%, followed by document verification.
Preparing the application

The application fee is typically 1,000 rupees for general, OBC and EWS candidates, and 250 rupees (an intimation charge only) for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, confirmed against the current notification.
On exam day
Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed e-admit card, a government photo identification, one recent passport size photograph and a black or blue ballpoint pen. No electronic devices are permitted inside the hall.
