What NIACL Assistant is
NIACL Assistant recruits graduates into the Class III Assistant cadre of New India Assurance Co. Ltd., the entry level clerical and customer-facing role at India’s largest public sector general insurer. It sits alongside NIACL AO as the other main entry route into the company, at a lower starting grade with a shorter selection process.
Who can apply
A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with English as a subject completed at some stage of education, is the general requirement. Reading, writing and speaking proficiency in the regional language of the state or union territory you apply for is mandatory and tested separately. The general age band is roughly 21 to 30 years, “as on” 1 December of the recruitment year, with standard relaxations for reserved categories. Confirm the exact cutoff date against the current notification.
How the exam runs
The Preliminary Examination is a one hour test of one hundred questions across English Language, Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability, with a quarter mark penalty for each wrong answer.
The Main Examination is a two hour objective test of two hundred questions worth two hundred and fifty marks, covering Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability, English Language, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge, with the same quarter mark penalty. There is no interview stage: candidates who clear the Main Examination proceed straight to the qualifying Regional Language Test.
Preparing the application
Photograph and signature specifications match the rest of the banking and insurance exam family: a JPEG photograph between 20 and 50 kilobytes and a JPEG signature between 10 and 20 kilobytes. The resizers on this site handle both in your browser without uploading anything.
The application fee is typically 850 rupees for general and OBC candidates and 100 rupees for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, confirmed against the current notification.
On exam day
Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed e-admit card, a government photo identification, one recent passport size photograph and a black or blue ballpoint pen. No electronic devices are permitted inside the hall.
What the job actually involves
An NIACL Assistant handles branch-level policy document management, premium collection support, claims assistance, customer service and data entry. An internal promotion exam is the usual route from Assistant into the Administrative Officer cadre. A Public Sector General Insurance Company-wide wage revision was centrally approved in January 2026; the sibling exam at NICL Assistant already reflects the revised pay scale in its most recent notification, so a similar revision is expected to reach a future NIACL Assistant notification, though none had been issued at the time this page was written.
