What Agniveer Vayu is
Agniveer Vayu is the Indian Air Force’s recruitment under the Agnipath scheme, for airmen rather than officers. It is a four-year tour of duty, distinct from both NDA and AFCAT, which lead to an officer commission in the Air Force through a very different route and time commitment. Like Agniveer Army and Agniveer Navy, it runs as its own separate recruitment cycle under the Air Force’s own portal, sharing only the Agnipath scheme’s underlying four-year structure with the other two services.
Who can apply
Two eligibility streams run in parallel. The Science stream asks for Class 12 (10+2) with Mathematics, Physics and English, minimum 50 percent aggregate and 50 percent in English specifically. The Other than Science stream asks for Class 12 pass in any stream, with the same 50 percent aggregate and English marks. Candidates must be unmarried. How selection runs
Phase 1 is an online computer based test covering English, Mathematics, Physics and Reasoning Ability. Candidates who clear Phase 1 move to Phase 2, the Physical Fitness Test and an Adaptability Test that assesses suitability for varied terrain, weather and operational conditions and military life generally. Phase 3 is the Medical Examination. There is no interview stage; unlike the SSB process NDA and AFCAT candidates go through for an officer commission, Agniveer Vayu selection runs entirely on the written test, physical and adaptability assessment, and medical fitness.
Preparing the application

The application fee is five hundred fifty rupees plus 18 percent GST, payable online only.
On exam day
Carry the printed admit card and an original government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the examination centre.
Choosing among the Air Force’s entry routes
A candidate eligible for both an officer commission and an Agniveer intake into the Air Force has genuinely different paths to weigh: NDA for a Class 12 candidate committing to a multi-year academy track, AFCAT for a graduate targeting a Short Service or Permanent Commission, and Agniveer Vayu here for a four-year airman tour with a narrower long-term guarantee.
