What Bank of India SO is
Bank of India recruits qualified professionals directly into Specialist Officer posts across scales I to IV, covering technology, information security, engineering, legal and several other specialist streams, through its own Specialist Officer recruitment. Unlike the generalist IBPS PO or SBI PO exams, which any graduate can attempt, BOI SO is stream-specific: eligibility, the online exam’s professional knowledge section and the interview all depend on which specialist stream you are applying under.
This recruitment is comparable in structure to SBI’s own Specialist Cadre Officer recruitment, though BOI SO runs through a written online exam followed by an interview rather than SBI SO’s shortlisting-plus-interview model, so the two are worth comparing directly if you are eligible for both and deciding which to target first.
Who can apply
Qualification requirements are stream-specific rather than a single “any graduate” bar. Technology and information security posts typically require a B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Computer Science, IT or Electronics, or an MCA or M.Sc in a relevant subject, often alongside professional certifications like CISA, CISM, CISSP or AWS, plus relevant post-qualification work experience. How the exam runs
The online examination runs for one hundred minutes and has two sections: an English Language section that is qualifying only and does not count towards merit, and a Professional Knowledge section specific to your stream that does count towards merit. This weighting matters for preparation: unlike a generalist bank exam where English, reasoning and quantitative sections all carry merit weight, a BOI SO candidate’s actual score is decided almost entirely by depth in their own professional subject.

Preparing the application

The application fee for general, OBC and EWS candidates is eleven hundred eighty rupees, inclusive of intimation charges. SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay one hundred seventy five rupees, intimation charges only.

Reach the centre at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card. Carry the printed e-admit card, an original government photo identification, and one recent passport size photograph. Mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, earphones and any other electronic device are prohibited inside the examination hall.
