What this competition is
Togo fills new teaching posts in preschool, primary and secondary education, general, technical and professional, through a competitive written exam rather than a CV review alone: the Concours National de Recrutement de Fonctionnaires Enseignants. Each session is opened by the Ministere de la Fonction Publique, du Travail et du Dialogue Social (renamed in later sessions to the Ministere de la Reforme du Service Public, du Travail et du Dialogue Social), working with the Regional Directorates of Education and the Regional Inspectorates of Technical and Vocational Education. Candidates file a physical application dossier at the regional office covering their area, and sit a written exam held on one date, nationwide, at the same set of regional centres every session. That single-date, single-ministry shape is what separates this mechanism from the fragmented, separately-scheduled civil-service and grande-ecole competitions this site has ruled out elsewhere in Francophone West Africa: Togo’s teacher concours has one combined national candidate count, reported by name by regional press outlets covering the session.
How the competition actually runs
The written exam has two components, sat the same day. Every candidate takes a general-knowledge (culture generale) paper common to all applicants, regardless of the level or subject they are applying to teach. Alongside it, candidates sit a specialty paper: a preschool or primary specialty paper for those levels, or a subject paper in the discipline applied for at secondary level, among them French, German, English, Spanish, history-geography, mathematics, physics-chemistry and philosophy. The exam is held at regional centres in Lome, Tsevie, Atakpame, Kpalime, Sokode, Kara and Dapaong, the same seven cities used for filing applications in each session this page tracked. Provisional and then final admission lists are published by ministerial decree after marking.
Who is eligible
Candidates must hold Togolese nationality. The qualification required depends on the post sought: the Certificat d’Aptitude Pedagogique (CAP) for preschool and primary posts, or a Bac+3 level diploma (a Licence or its equivalent) for secondary general, technical or professional posts, per the conditions published for the 2023 session and later. Each session’s own notice, published in the Togo Presse national newspaper and on the ministry’s site, sets that session’s exact document list, filing window and age limits, which have not been identical across the sessions this page tracked.
Scale
Regional press coverage gives a real, sourced scale for the mechanism. The session whose written exam was held 2 September 2023 drew more than 31,000 candidates competing for 4,500 announced posts across preschool, primary and secondary general, technical and professional education, a figure reported by beninwebtv.bj and corroborated by the recruitment-notice aggregator afri-carrieres.com, both dated to the exam’s launch and sitting. The next tracked session opened 4,386 posts, with applications filed from 9 September to 7 November 2024 and the written exam held 7 December 2024 at the same seven regional centres; no sourced aggregate candidate count for that specific session was found in the research behind this page, so none is assumed here. A further session opened applications on 5 January 2026, with its written exam scheduled for 11 April 2026.
What this page does not yet cover
This page covers the national teacher-recruitment concours as reported for its September 2023, December 2024 and 2026 sessions; a sourced candidate count was found only for the 2023 session, and the 2024 and 2026 figures cited above are post counts and dates, not candidate totals. Togo’s other written-competitive routes were also researched but are not covered here. The general concours de la fonction publique recruits across many separately opened, ministry- and cadre-specific competitions each year (a 2,235-post regional medical and paramedical recruitment, a 52-post healthcare-interns concours, and other campaigns run independently of one another), the same fragmented shape that has kept other countries’ general civil-service competitions off this site. The concours d’entree a l’Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) is a genuine written competition, run in separate cycles (Cycle II and Cycle III for the 2026 session, 110 posts combined) recruiting a narrower set of administrative cadres than the teaching profession this page covers; no sourced aggregate candidate count for an ENA-Togo session was found in this pass’s research. The ENFPE (Ecoles Normales de Formation des Professeurs d’Ecole) entrance concours, Togo’s teacher-training-school route, recruits into six schools (Adeta, Dapaong, Mango, Notse, Sotouboua, Tabligbo) through its own internal recruitment concours; the only sourced figure found for it, 155 candidates declared admissible in one internal session, is far smaller in scale than the mechanism this page covers and was not pursued further.
