What IBPS RRB is
IBPS runs a separate Common Recruitment Process specifically for Regional Rural Banks, distinct from its public sector bank processes (IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk) covered elsewhere on this site. Regional Rural Banks serve rural and semi-urban areas under joint ownership of the central government, a sponsor public sector bank, and the relevant state government, and IBPS RRB recruits Office Assistants (clerical cadre) and Officers across Scale I, II and III for these banks specifically.
Because RRBs operate within specific states, local language proficiency in the state a candidate applies to is commonly required, which is not a requirement in IBPS PO or IBPS Clerk.
Who can apply
A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university is the core academic requirement, along with proficiency in the local language of the state applied for, as specified in the notification. Officer Scale II and III posts carry additional experience and, for some specialist posts, professional qualification requirements. The general age band spans roughly 18 to 40 years depending on the specific scale and post, as specified in the notification, with standard relaxations for reserved categories and persons with disability.
How the exam runs
Office Assistant and Officer Scale I candidates sit a Preliminary Examination covering Reasoning and Numerical Ability, with negative marking for wrong answers as specified in the notification; Officer Scale II and III candidates go directly to the Main Examination without a Preliminary stage. The Main Examination for all posts covers Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude or Numerical Ability, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and English or Hindi Language, again with negative marking as specified in the notification.
Officer Scale I, II and III candidates who clear the Main Examination sit an Interview; Office Assistant candidates are selected directly from the Main Examination score without a separate Interview stage.
Preparing the application
IBPS specifies exact photograph and signature requirements in each notification rather than a fixed year to year standard, so check the current notification’s dimensions and file size before uploading. The tools on this site can resize your photograph to whatever specific target the notification states.
On exam day
Arrive at least an hour before the reporting time on your admit card, with the printed admit card and a government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the exam centre.
The official IBPS website, linked above, carries the current participating RRB list, vacancies, syllabus, and schedule for the cycle you are applying to.
