What Assam ADRE is
Assam Direct Recruitment (ADRE) is the state’s own umbrella recruitment exam, run by the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) in partnership with the Assam State School Education Board, filling Grade III and Grade IV posts across dozens of state government departments in one exam cycle rather than each department recruiting separately. Its most recent completed cycle, generally referred to as ADRE 2.0, drew close to twenty lakh applications for just over twelve thousand posts, making it one of the largest single recruitment drives in the Northeast by applicant volume. It sits at the same tier as UP Lekhpal and TNPSC Group 4: a Class 10 to graduate qualified, clerical and support-staff recruitment, not a gazetted civil service exam.
Who can apply
Grade III eligibility runs across three separate qualification categories under one recruitment: a Driver category asking for HSLC (Class 10) pass with a valid driving licence, a Higher Secondary category asking for HSSLC (Class 12) pass, and a Graduate category asking for a Bachelor’s degree. Grade IV eligibility is capped lower: HSLC pass, or Class 8 pass for a specified set of posts, and graduates are explicitly not eligible for Grade IV posts. The general age band is 18 to 40 years, with the usual relaxation for OBC/MOBC, SC/ST and PwBD candidates under Assam government rules. Candidates must hold a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam and Employment Exchange registration in the state.
How the exam runs
ADRE runs five separate written papers under one umbrella, three for the Grade III categories (Driver, Higher Secondary, Graduate) and two for Grade IV, and a candidate sits only the paper matching their own post category. Each paper is one hundred fifty objective questions worth one hundred fifty marks, three hours, with a quarter mark deducted for each wrong answer. There is no interview and no physical test; selection runs on the written score followed by document verification.
Preparing the application

ADRE has consistently run with no application fee for any category, a genuine point of difference from most other exams on this site, which is worth confirming against the current notification since fee policy can still change between cycles.
On exam day
Carry the printed admit card and an original government photo identification matching the name and photo on the admit card. No electronic devices are permitted inside the examination hall.
Between cycles
ADRE does not run on a fixed annual calendar the way SSC or TNPSC do; ADRE 2.0’s notification, exam and final results together spanned roughly two years. A follow-on cycle is expected but had not been formally notified as of this page’s last verification, so treat any specific date circulating for a future cycle as unconfirmed until SLRC’s own notification is released, and check how to check whether a government job notification is genuine before trusting a circulating “notification date” for the next round.
